The Global Business Journalism program has extended its application deadline to April 1 for prospective applicants for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Co-Directors Hang Min and Rick Dunham made the announcement on March 2. The reason for the one-month extension of the deadline is to give students more time to deal with continuing complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic and global military and economic conflicts.
"We are hoping to attract another class of outstanding and diverse students from all parts of the world," Professor Dunham said. "Despite the logistical challenges created by COVID-19, Global Business Journalism continues to attract exceptional applicants who have become invaluable assets to the program."
Candidates from the first two rounds of GBJ applications (November 1, 2021 to March 1, 2022) will be interviewed by the Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication selection committee in March. Candidates from the new third round of applicants will be interviewed in early April.
Professor Dunham said the pandemic has reduced the size of the incoming classes of international students by about 20%, but he said the quality of the new participants has been the best in the program's history.
Global Business Journalism is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2022. The program, a partnership among Tsinghua University, the International Center for Journalists and Bloomberg News, is the first English language journalism master's program in China, and it remains the only business journalism master's program on the Chinese mainland. Since its launch on Sept. 17, 2007, GBJ has built a stellar reputation for enhancing the quality of business journalism around the world and preparing a multimedia-savvy group of young journalists for the rapidly changing media landscape.
