Global Business Journalism grad joins celebration at Chinese consul general's residence in Perth


Fluent in Chinese, Natalie Meyer hosted the bilingual 2020 New Year Gala for international students.

Global Business Journalism alumna Natalie Meyer was among a small group of Australians invited to join Chinese Consul General Long Dingbin for an event in Perth to mark the centenary of the Communist Party.


The June 22 seminar at the Chinese Consul General's Official Residence was attended by representatives of the Chinese community in Perth and other local citizens in the capital of Western Australia.

Meyer, recently chosen as the Outstanding Graduate of the Global Business Journalism graduating class of 2021, lives in Perth. During her time at Tsinghua, she won the Chinese government scholarship, hosted the 2020 Tsinghua New Year Gala for international students, and was awarded the title of Tsinghua "Global Student Ambassador" of the year in 2021.


The event featured short speeches by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Professor Barry Marshall, Sun Xiaoxuan, chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Australia (CCCA) Perth, Pan Lili, Executive Deputy President of the Australia China Business Council (ACBC) for Western Australia, Chen Ting, president of the Chung Wah Association, and Kadambot Siddique, a professor at the University of Western Australia. Consul Long delivered a keynote address.


Attendees watched a short video that included messages of congratulations from senior foreign leaders and later enjoyed a Chinese buffet lunch.
